Travelling Collage in Studio Kura village

We took the collage out into the village to provide a different context for it. We were struck by the modular nature of the old houses in the village and the use of tatami mats as a unit of measurement (rooms are described as 6 or 8 mat rooms, etc). The Collage has been a fairly organic and 3 dimensional structure in previous versions but in Japan it became more orderly and constrained, loosely conforming to the rectangular proportions of a tatami mat. The images themselves were more clearly organised and narrative, reflecting the landscape of rice paddies and wooded hills seen from the studio windows.
